Program Overview
The Graduate Program in Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology (PPGBBE), at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), started in March 2011. The central theme of our program is Evolution. Members of our faculty assemble a solid theoretical background integrated with state-of-the-art technology to solve questions on micro and macroevolutionary processes and patterns. Our aim is the creation of a productive academic environment with lines of research that focus on different aspects of evolutionary problems. Our coursework also adheres to this commitment, with disciplines focused on the theoretical framework and hands-on practical tools which are pivotal for the development of the research projects with all biological groups.
Recently, in the evaluation of CAPES (Ministry of Education), we were promoted to level 5 (out of a total of 7), which places PPGBBE among the best graduate programs in Brazil.
